The Villa de Matel Chapel is the central place of worship for the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. Designed by Houston architect Maurice J. Sullivan and consecrated in 1928, the chapel is widely acclaimed as the most beautiful in Texas.
The nave of the Neo-Byzantine chapel features vaulted and tiled ceilings supported by multi-hued marble columns from France, Italy and the United States. Venetian mosaics of semi-precious stone and gold-fired opuses tile are interspersed with exquisite stained glass windows created in Germany and Ireland.
Renowned for its perfect acoustics, the chapel is an ideal setting for the performance by Ars Lyrica.
We gratefully acknowledge the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, who generously provide their wonderful Chapel and Dubuis Center for this special event. |
